Automotive Companies in Singapore

The automotive industry is one of the largest industries in Singapore. With a population of just 5.6 million, it’s not only the third-largest car market in Southeast Asia but also home to over 300 car brands and dealers that sold almost 170,000 new cars last year alone.

The increasing number of cars on our roads results from rising incomes and a growing preference for premium brands and services among affluent consumers. Growth in this segment has raised demand for top-end services from auto OEMs and suppliers which, in turn, has led to an increase in their spending power, catering services and even parking spaces!

Towards a More Sustainable Singapore

The Singaporean government has been trying to reduce the number of cars on the road since the 1970s, when the country first implemented car ownership restrictions known as the Certificate of Entitlement. These COEs are basically car-licensing schemes that have been used for decades to regulate the number of cars on the road. The country has also implemented taxes on vehicles, such as the vehicle emissions tax. The government is also investing in new infrastructure to support the country’s growing population and economy. It is estimated that over 10,000 cars will be added to the roads each month in the coming years as the country’s middle-income population grows.
