St Joseph's Home. Where every resident is a person, not a patient. Set up in 1978 by the Catholic Welfare Services in collab ... oration with the Canossian Sisters, St Joseph's Home welcomes the old, the terminally ill and anyone else needing care but with no one to care for them. We support them not only in their medical and nursing needs, but their emotional, social and spiritual well-being. What this means is that we're not just concerned about residents getting their three meals and one shower a day, but also the impact that our care, programmes and services have on the residents' quality of life. We are thus always on the lookout for ways to improve and transform the way we care with and for them, be it in terms of the type of activities available or the way our staff and volunteers engage with them. We recently expanded when we moved back to Jurong West. But even as the numbers rise, our quest for better eldercare continues. How can we re-frame the way we think about seniors and of nursing homes in general? How can the new perspectives shape our and others' behaviours? And could the new behaviours ultimately result in better care for our seniors of tomorrow? It takes a village to support a senior.
