About IRIMC (Iran Medical Council)

The Islamic Republic of Iran Medical Council (IRIMC) is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) which is responsible for licensing ... , authorization, and registration of the all healthcare professionals (except nurses who are registered by Iran Nursing Organization.) to practice in Iran. IRIMC strives to achieve the following goals: 1) Continued improvement of the quality of health care 2) Improvement of the medical practice as well as medical education to a more excellent level. 3) Promoting as well as maintaining the quality of health care practice 4) Definition, protection and supporting patients' rights 5) Protection of the professional rights of the health care professionals 6) regulating bi or multilateral collaborations between healthcare professionals and other associations & organizations. All Iranian health care professionals are registered and licensed by IRIMC. IRIMC represents 241406 members (which 700 of them are international healthcare workers) including 89308 general practitioners, 42,333 specialist and sub-specialists in medicine, 27,570 general dentists, 2,300 specialists in dentistry, 19,600 pharmacists, 1,327 clinical laboratory doctors, 40,600 midwives, and 18,298 other licensed health care workers (such as physical therapists and optometrists). 196 regional branches have been established nationwide through independent and simultaneous election procedure. Each regional branch consists of a board of directors with regional president, vice president, treasurer and secretary whom operate under the supervision of IRIMC president and the supreme council. 2,860 health care professionals serve as the boards of directors of all IRIMC regional offices in Iran.
