GR är en samarbetsorganisation för 13 kommuner i Västsverige som tillsammans har en miljon invånare. GRs uppgift är att ve ... rka för samarbete över kommungränserna och vara ett forum för idé- och erfarenhetsutbyte inom regionen. Verksamheten inom GR ska vara till kommunal nytta, samtidigt som den ska stärka regionen nationellt och internationellt. GR arbetar inom områden som regional planering, miljö, arbetsmarknad, välfärd, socialtjänst, kompetensutveckling, utbildning och forskning. GR har också ett nära samarbete med systerorganisationen Business Region Göteborg som är kommunernas gemensamma resurs för näringslivsutveckling.
