Why Meditation?
In 2014, one in three Australians will suffer from stress, one in four Australians will have a mental disorder and one in five Australians will be on stress-related medication. Almost half of the nation’s children will suffer from depression, anxiety and or other stress-related illnesses
Stress is a fact of human life, but the pandemic levels of stress, stress-related mental illness and lifestyle diseases that we are seeing today are abnormal by historical standards.
There is a growing body of scientific evidence being released by the world’s leading universities that demonstrates how meditation produces a range of positive psychophysiological outcomes including decreased stress, decreased depression and anxiety, increased immune function, increased brain function, normalised blood pressure and heart rate, chronic pain relief, increased energy levels and creativity, increased happiness, empathy, and faster recovery from stressful events among many other positive results.
So, why doesn’t everyone meditate? Most people don’t have access to this research, they believe that meditation is difficult to learn, is mostly an esoteric spiritual practice and does not directly correlate to increased health and wellbeing.
